It started from Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, on July 15 and will reach its final destination; Hussainiwala, on September 12, 2017. They will pay obeisance to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev at their memorial there and the day will be celebrated as ‘Pledge Day’ for approval of the Act in Parliament.
Sandeep Ladhuka, district president of the AISF, said, “Youth of Punjab and nation are facing extreme problem of unemployment. Over 90 lakh youth are unemployed in Punjab and such a situation is giving open chance to private and corporate sector for exploitation of labour. For such youngsters, ‘BNEGA Long March’ acts as a ray of hope.”
Addressing hundreds of young students and research scholars at the Open Air Theatre of the university, national president of the AISF Syed Vali Ullah Kadri said, “The government is hell bent on destroying the higher education system. Whenever students and unemployed youth asked for their rights and raised the demand for employment, they are labeled as anti-nationals.”
He said, “The education is already far from the reach of students, and in addition to this, policies of decreasing the seats of admission, closing fellowships etc. are denying students from research as well. Research work increases the intellectuality and strengthens the scientific temperament, but with such education policy, the government is harming both nation as well as students.”
