Today:- New Delhi:Jan – Twelfth graders are yet to write their final exams, but it’s admission time already at many universities. Private universities such as Ashoka University, Sonipat, and Christ University, Bengaluru, which don’t, admit just on the basis of marks, have already started accepting applications. Several public universities in Delhi, including Jawahrlal Nehru University, Jamia Millia Islamia and Ambedkar University, Delhi, too, start the process before the Class XII results are out. Ashoka University started first of its four-round admission process, which will end on January 11, early in October. The process involves submitting statements and, later, “on-the –spot” essay writting and interview. The fourth and the last round will end in June. Christ University in Bengaluru started the admission process in December for most undergraduate programmes. The initial steps of the process are online and while Class XII marks are important, they aren’t the only factor in admissions. Amity University, Noida, will advertise in February. “It is just the preliminary step. The tests are held after the board exams are over,” says Savita Mehta of Amity. A Common exam will be held in March, and an interview or group discussion for management-type courses immediately will follow it. Successful candidates are issued a provisional admission letter. IN UR RUSH –Running undergraduate programmes in the university will start the application process on February 5. The online admission process will continue till March 21; the offline part will start in the first week of March and end on March 25 The admission test will be conducted on May 16,17,18 and 19 after the CBSE board exams are over. The total number of undergraduate seats are 342 in the first year and another 84 in the second year. Registration for Ambedkar University’s (AUD) undergraduate programmes will begin in the second week of April and the last date ins in the third week of June. This schedule is followed despite the fact that there’s no entrance test, and admission is on the basis of ‘merit’, that is , Class XII marks and cut-off lists. “students who’ve studied under other boards or take gap years already have their marks and they can apply in advance,” says Sarmistha Roy, deputy registrar, AUD.
