Today:-New Delhi,Dec — The 10th On the Spot Inter School Painting Competition”, now a major art competition activity in the co-curricular calendr of the Capital and held on par with the Shankar’, Nehru Bal Samiti and Wild Life painting competitions organized by Hargopal Sports, Culture & Social Welfare Society, was held at Modern School, Barakhamba Road, New Delhi under the aegis of the NGO, Hargopal Sports, Culture & Social Welfare Society attracting 38 government and government aided schools including 908 schoolchildren.
Air Marshal, Naresh Verma was the Chief Guest while the renowned Hindi journalist, Alok Mehta, Ambika Pant, Secretary, Modern School, Board of Trustees, Sanjay Garg Kamal Aggarwal, trustees of Modern Schools in the NCR, graced the occasion as Guests of Honour. Guest for the day.
The Chief Guest, Naresh Verma stated that such competitions hone creative talent among the children besides giving them immense confidence. Dr Vijay Datta, Principal, Modern School, welcomed all the participants and said, “Painting is perhaps the most expressive and creative of all art forms. Art is by nature a luminous language. Sometimes people think drawing and painting is mucking about when actually it is a highly skilled activity.”
Ambika Pant Secretary Modern School, Board of trustees emphasized that need of the hour was to support the neglected sections of society as the Hargopal NGO has been doing by providing the avenues in the field of sports and cultural activities by holding such competitions. She added that these competitions are a must to encourage students of all age groups. DP, Singh, the general secretary, Hargopal Sports, Culture & Social Welfare Society and the son of Sardar Hargopal Singh, has been conducting the competition for the last ten years.
The topics for the painting competition were: Classes 1 and 2 – My Garden (or) My Favourite Animal, Classes 3 to 5 – Festive Scene (or) Clean and Green India, Classes 6 to 8 – My Favourite Sport (or) Heritage and Classes 9 to 12 – My Favourite Personality (or) My Vision of India. The judges were eminent artists, namely — Aradhana Gupta, Dheerendra Singh, Shashi Gupta and Naval Singh.
Winners included: Classes 1-2: Mayank Das (Chowgule School), Classes 3-5: Debankon Bagh (Bhartiya Vidya BHawan), Classes6-8: Gaurav (Navyug School, Peshwa Road), Classes 9-12: Suraj Manjhi and Rahul Koi (Govt SBV, Rouse Avenue). In all there were 20 prizes.
The children were given the painting accessories including the board, sheet, colours etc by the Hargopal Society besides the pizzas for lunch. Twenty students were given away prizes in all the four categories, Those who did not win, it was gala time for them visiting Modern School.
