JNU assault victims mistreated by Haryana Police

Today:- Aug – The victims of the Asola Sanctuary assault lodged an FIR, at a different location, at Delhi’s Vasant Kunj North police station on Wednesday, which was in turn transferred to the police station in Faridabad. As a result of the allegations, the sub inspector of Surajkund police station has been suspended for negligence of duty.
The group of students were mistreated by sub Inspector Suresh Kumar, when they visited the Surajkund police station to file a formal complaint. The woman was not only asked obscene questions, but the entire group was forced to write a maafinama apologising for the entire incident.
The group of seven had faced a drunk mob of locals at about 9 pm on Aug 14. The incident occured when the group spilt up while preparing to leave the Bharadwaj lake at Asola Wildlife Sanctuary on Tuesday . The three students on the bike, two men and a woman were repeatedly assaulted by lathis by the locals and the woman was threatened with rape.
At least four men armed with sticks stopped the trio on the bike, accused the students of infringement on private property. These people repeatedly assaulted the three for a period of about two hours. Several lewd questions were aimed at the woman and communally insensitive words were used to further traumatize them.
The victims met Faridabad police commissioner Hanif Qureshi on Friday regarding the incident. The investigation is being handled by ACP Pooja Dabla and monitored by DCP Astha Modi. The police team will visit the JNU campus today to record the statements of the victims. Three teams have been formed to help identify which local villagers frequented the sanctuary at night.
